After quite a while of not being able to print from our laptop to the shared printer on our XP desktop, I finally got it working last night thanks to my Dad.
Here’s the instructions:
Make sure you can see the XP computer from Vista. If you can’t:
make sure the workgroup is the same (as the defaults are different)
In Vista, go to Computer, System Properties
make sure file and print sharing is allowed through the firewall - in our case we had to reset the firewall rules on our XP machine and re-add the ones we wanted for this to work:
Last weekend we went up to the O2 arena for the Strictly Come Dancing Tour and we had a fantastic day. Getting up there went really smoothly - the roads were clear and the views of the snow on the surrounding countryside was amazing. We got up there at about 11 o’clock and thought that we’d beat the rush and head straight to Nando’s for lunch - annoyingly they didn’t open till 12 so we headed back to Starbucks for coffee and a snack to give us energy for the hour before we could eat!
At last our 12 week scan arrived. It had felt like it was a really long way, but it seemed to come round quite quickly once Christmas had gone. So this evening we finally got to see our new little baby, and it was wonderful.
It had been a bit worrying initially as we couldn’t find the heartbeat with the doppler we’d rented and the midwife couldn’t find it either when she tried on Tuesday.
Today when I was in town with Abi, we saw a man sitting on a bench – she pointed at him and said,
“It’s Grandad Tumble”
I said, “It’s not Grandad Tumble”
She said, “It is Grandad Tumble isn’t it! Okay!
As I was reading with Abi before she went to bed tonight, she decided that she wanted to read:
**Abi: **Abi want to read to you
**Me: **Ok, let me find you the page…
**Abi: **Angel visited Mary … you’re having a baby!
**Abi: **What’s the baby called?
**Me: **Jesus
**Abi: **Yes, thats right!
As Abi was going to bed, we had the following conversation:
**Abi:**Abi to wake up early
**Abi:**Abi wake up at 3
**Me:**Thats too early - how about 8?
**Abi:**Abi wake up at 10 to 7
For the first part of the flight back from Malta, we had fun with Abi as she enjoyed the flight and liked her mini seat just between us as we’d folded up the arm rest.
After we’d had the in-flight meal on the return journey, and after Abi had fallen asleep, my stomach started to feel a bit funny so I got up to stretch my legs and get some water.
Just a reminder, so I remember the difference! - chomp is a safer version of “chop” removes any trailing string that matches what perl thinks is a new line)
` $string = “abcdef”;
chop($string) # $s is now f, $string is now abcde
chomp($string) # $string is still now abcde
$string = “abcdefn”;
chomp($string) # $string is now abcdef

We’ve had a fantastic day today - done loads and now I’m exhausted!
We started off with visiting the Portsmouth & Hampshire Art Society at the Portsmouth Cathedral - there were some fantastic pictures there and Abi enjoyed it particularly the boat pictures. Then we had to dash off to a Kati, Dillon and Duncan’s birthday party that Abi had been invited to, which was really nice as there were lots of our friends from church there and Abi had lots of fun playing with the other children.
This morning Laura spotted a spider in the bath and asked me to remove it. I picked up the spider and showed it to Abi. I then took the spider outside. Abi slammed the door behind me and screamed in protest.
When I came back without the spider and shut the door, she held out her hand as if to hold the spider and said “Abi loves spider”
